Orlando Recognizes Black Maternal Health Week
The Central Florida Birth Network is proud to announce that the City of Orlando has officially issued a proclamation recognizing Black Maternal Health Week this April! This acknowledgment is more than just words on paper, it’s a critical step toward raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and inspiring action to address the stark disparities in Black maternal health outcomes right here in our community.
Why Black Maternal Health Week Matters
Founded by the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, Black Maternal Health Week (April 11–17) is a time to center Black birthing experiences, amplify Black-led solutions, and advocate for systemic change. Black birthing people continue to face disproportionately higher maternal mortality rates, systemic bias in healthcare, and limited access to culturally responsive care. BMHW provides space to uplift joy, celebrate families, and reimagine a future where every Black parent is supported and cared for with the dignity they deserve.
At CFBN, our mission is clear: We aim to connect the community to holistic, safe, inclusive, and informed reproductive, pregnancy, and birth care options by empowering families, individuals, and health professionals through education and community-building, while creating community amongst birth and allied health professionals. Black Maternal Health Week aligns directly with our commitment to ensuring that every birthing person, regardless of race, has access to the care they need to thrive.
